THANK YOU to everyone who came out to Ride + Stretch this week! Holy smokes, what a turn out! While it was incredible, and I only can hope it grows, I realized how unprepared I was for such a crowd, so I figured I'd give a few pointers that came to mind (for both myself and for the riders), as well as a new "Before Ride Routine"....
Check-In! Introduce yourself! Don't be shy :)
Admittedly, I was initially against the whole "check-in" thing. I thought, "Hey, this is casual. Come, ride, do yoga, be merry." But with our numbers only growing, and the fact that I am adamant about not dropping anyone, I realize now that the best course of action would in-fact be to have a Check-In process. So, come find ME, Brittany, the girl with the clipboard! I'll take your name, ask if you'll be riding back with us or taking off separately, and you can hand in your donation at that time ($5 for our stellar instructor!).
WHERE WE ARE HEADED
Yoga will be held at the top of Rocky River Park, over looking the lake.
We will be crossing the Clifton/Lake bridge ON THE SIDEWALK. At the end of the bridge, there is a SHARP right turn, and we do need to cross over to the sidewalk again, as it is a one way street. Once we are past that turn, we can cross back over and ride the road again.
Group riding is a blast, but lets be mindful of the rules of the road. We would like equal privileges on the road, we aren't looking to take it over. So, let's try to ride in single/double file on the main roads. We can be a bit more relaxed on the back streets, but be mindful and respectful of cars. If you see a car coming to pass, yell out "Car Back" and give them room. It's a bit like "telephone", only let's get the message to the front of the pack without changing the words around :)
IF you need to stop, again, pass the info on to the person in front of you, and if you are the person receiving the message, keep sending it forward. We don't want anyone getting left behind, so let us know, and we'll slow down/stop and wait for you to catch up.
Use signals. Let cars and other riders know if and when you are turning and in which direction. We don't want any collisions.
Have fun! This isn't a race, chat with the other riders, and enjoy the fresh air!
